As a church we support the work of the Father’s Refuge (Kanlungan ng Ama) on the island of Palawan in the Philippines. The community there take care of children by having them live with them permanently as part of the family. These children have no chance of re-integration with their birth families or of adoption. Instead, it is the goal to have a “Safe Village”, made up of small family units, with a house parent for each unit. This way they hope to provide a natural family atmosphere in which each child is comfortable and well-supported.
Over the years a number of us from Community Church have visited to give whatever support we could and to learn from them. We have also been able to help financially. Earlier this year we sent a gift of £1,000 which was used in part to help refurbished the accommodation. The team report that the money was used to replace all the old rotting timber and bamboo walling with plywood. Tiled flooring was added throughout and new doors fitted for the rooms and kitchens.
Kanlungan ng Ama (“The Father’s Refuge”), is a Christian Social Welfare Agency based on the island of Palawan, Philippines. They exist to serve the poor and defend the rights of the vulnerable and fatherless. They have a heart to see the downtrodden lifted up and empowered, and rescued from cycles of poverty.
