Reflection
The post yesterday spoke of the journey of transformation that the Spirit leads us on. A major means of this transformation is experiencing the power of Scripture as the living word of God – not as dead letter but as living word. Jesus said to his disciples, ‘the words I speak to you are spirit and life.’ He also challenged the Pharisees and teachers of the law when he said ‘you diligently study the Scriptures because you think by them you have eternal life, yet these Scriptures are about me and yet you refuse to come to me to find life.’ We see a church that honours and values the Scriptures as a living word but which understands that this is only in so far as they are used by the Holy Spirit who points us to and leads us to Jesus, who is our life. The Bible is the Story of God made up of many smaller stories, and the hero of the Story and the stories is always Jesus.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, thank you for giving us the Scriptures that tell us the great Story of salvation, with Jesus at the centre. Thank you that as we read them with your help they always lead us to Jesus, the author of life. Help us to read them often in your presence and to experience them as they are meant be, the living words of God. Amen
